Love is a beautiful emotion and needs no introduction. Some have experienced it, some are experiencing it and some will experience it in the future. It may have left bittersweet moments for some people, but, life has much more extravagant things to offer & we should just look for that light at the end of the tunnel.
Speaking of love, this is a movie trilogy that made us fall in love with it so much that we could not wait to share it with everyone. It is none other than the "Before" Trilogy which consists of 3 movies -
Before Sunrise (1995)
Before Sunset (2004)
Before Midnight (2013)
As from the timelines, we can observe, the movies were released after 9 years each. So, currently, there is no news for a 4th Before Film, but we seriously want it and will hope for it to get released in 2022. We are just going to provide you with the basic storyline & not the important parts or spoilers, so anyone can read ahead.
All the three movies star the amazing talented lead pair of "Ethan Hawke" & "Julie Delpy". The director, "Richard Linklater" directed & even wrote the scripts for all these 3 fantastic movies on love. All three movies have great IMDb Ratings, beginning from 8.1 for Before Sunrise, 8.0 for Before Sunset & 7.9 for Before Midnight, which is a great feat for a collection or series of movies to have ratings so close which also might prove that the content & story was great & authentic.
1. Before Sunrise (1995) -
Here, we see the lead pair "Jesse" (Ethan Hawke) & "Celine" (Julie Delpy) meet in a train traveling to Vienna, Austria. They just get to talking as strangers and connect a lot & just spend the entire day together wandering in the streets of Vienna & also get involved romantically with each other. Some beautiful dialogues of this film are -
"Everything that's interesting costs a little bit of money.",
"Feminism is made by males so they can ask the females to free their bodies.",
"I believe if there's any kind of God it wouldn't be in any of us, not you or me but just this little space in between. If there's any kind of magic in this world it must be in the attempt of understanding someone sharing something. I know, it's almost impossible to succeed but who cares really? The answer must be in the attempt.",
"Everybody's parents fucked them up. Rich kids parents gave them too much. Poor kids, not enough. You know, too much attention, not enough attention. They either left them or they stuck around and taught them the wrong things.",
"You know what drives me crazy? It's all these people talking about how great technology is, and how it saves all this time. But, what good is saved time, if nobody uses it? If it just turns into more busywork. You never hear somebody say, "With the time I've saved by using my word processor, I'm gonna go to a Zen monastery and hang out". I mean, you never hear that.",
"Isn't everything we do in life a way to be loved a little more?",
"I kind of see love as this escape for two people who don't know how to be alone. People always talk about how love is this totally unselfish, giving thing, but if you think about it, there's nothing more selfish."
2. Before Sunset (2004) - The lead pair meet after 9 years in Paris, France where we find out Jesse is a writer now & is on a promotional book tour. The book is based on their first meeting 9 years ago & became the best-seller for its true nature. They spend their short time together as Jesse has to catch a plane & do soulful talks like the first film & wander around Paris. In this movie, the dialogues for the lead pair were also written by their actors - Ethan Hawke & Julie Delpy.
Some amazing dialogues of this film are -
"Happiness is in doing, not in getting what you want.",
"I guess when you're young, you just believe there'll be many people with whom you'll connect with. Later in life, you realize it only happens a few times.",
"You can never replace anyone because everyone is made up of such beautiful specific details.", "Life's hard. It's supposed to be. If we didn't suffer, we'd never learn anything.",
"What is love, if it's not respect, trust, admiration?"
3. Before Midnight (2013) -
This movie again takes place exactly after 9 years from their 2nd meeting. This movie is based in a village in Greece where the lead pair is having lunch with a group of their friends & just enjoying their time. This film also shows how much they have matured from their first meeting 18 years ago & how the relations between both have progressed. This movie too had the dialogues written by the two lead actors - Ethan Hawke & Julie Delpy.
Some fantastic dialogues of this film are -
"God knows he has many problems and has struggled his whole life connecting and being present, even with those he loves the most. And for that, he is deeply sorry. But you are his only hope.",
"Like sunlight, sunset, we appear, we disappear. We are so important to some, but we are just passing through.",
"But not knowing is not so bad. The point is to be looking, searching, to stay hungry.",
You have to be a little deluded to be motivated.",
"If you want love, then this is it. This is real life. It's not perfect but it's real.",
"I accept the whole package, the crazy and the brilliant. I know you're not gonna change and I don't want you to. It's called accepting you for being you.",
"At the end of the day, it's not the love of one other person that matters, it's the love of life."
Do watch these amazing films available on Netflix & Amazon Prime Video. They are such gems that you will learn about love & life in a way other than normal.
